Mobile Setup

Welcome to the KA1GDQ Ham Equipment Page. My name is Joe Reynolds, and I have been a him since late 1979.  I am now an Advanced Licensed Operator (which you can't achieve this license anymore). My goal in life (well at least at this time), is that I may be the last one to die as an Advanced License (Ticket) with a Novice Call Sign.

ICOM IC-2720H

ICOM 2720- My main mobile radio sitting in my car, covers 2mtr/70cm (440-450mhz, tx) and has a wide coverage receiver, to include 220, 800 & 900 mhz. I bought this radio with my Tax Refund in 2005.

Thanks to N1PYN, who is great at installing radio's.  By the way folks, you need a radio installed in a car, he can do wonders with anything.  I personally recommend him.  Anyone who wants to have a radio installed by John, send him an email @ n1pyn@arrl.net

In the past couple of years, since I purchased my ICOM 2720, which I have to say is still working great (only wish it had ALPHA/NUMERIC Display).

You can find me on the 146.685 & 147.315 repeaters. I also can be found on 146.955, 146.655, 147.000 & 145.49 repeaters.  Good thing this radio does the V/V U/U.  Why not have any 440 on a great dual band like this..... Well check what happened to ALL 440-450 MHZ repeaters on Cape Cod, South Shore and also in California.

ADI AR-247

I have purchased in 2006 an ADI 220 MHZ radio, which is working still (and I even installed it).  I installed the radio last year March (2006), and I have been happy with it so far. It is a little hard to tell what tone you have on when it is the radio on the bottom of the floor mount.  Power wise it works well. I have a 220mhz antenna on a trunk-lip and it works extremely well. I bought it for the 223.780 Brockton MA (N1PYN repeater), but that has been up and down, but N1ZZN. Repeater on 224.060 in Norwell, which has very good coverage. The other on the South Shore is 224.400 Quincy. There are a few north of Boston that you can hit from the South Shore.  Cape Cod is lacking in 220 Repeaters. They are listed but no active.

VERTEX 4200

With the tax refund of 2007,  I purchased my GMRS License and purchased the VERTEX 4200 (450-512) radio for GMRS communications.  WQGH 806.

I operate usually the Plymouth GMRS, The MASSNET frequencies and I am a traffic spotter for Smart Traveler now known as Massachusetts 511.

I have used it on long trips, and having the 141.3 tone on all repeaters does make it easier to raise travel assistance (or keep you awake when you drive 1500 miles one way by yourself).  Do a google search on GMRS & CTCSS Tone 141.3

KENWOOD HF TS-430S

ts430.jpg (5765 bytes)  The Kenwood TS-430S.  Bought used for a mear $650 a the Midland HamFest, Midland Texas, in 1991. My First and ONLY HF rig.  Right now this rig is sitting at N1PYN'S LOCATION, and will be eventually be put up at the Brockton Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  We are looking for a good power supply to run it. The tossed out.

RADIO SHACK HTX-420

The RadioShack HTX-420.  I bought this in 2004. It has 5watts, and is a dual band radio (2mtr/70 cm).  It came with 1 rechargeable and 1 AA battery pack unit.

For parts on this radio, click here. I hope they still have them as a special order from 1-800-THE-SHACK

For the owner's manual click here.

I am using this in the house at this time. I have not setup a station here on Cape Cod, because as soon as I set it up, I may have to take it down and move. Who knows, we will see.
